    victoria-Hall-open-kitchen

This was the best restaurant we have been to since we live in Ireland. Not classic Irish Food but instead Thai. I had the Beef Salad as a starter and the Cashew Nuts Chicken Dish as main course and if you still have room try their fantastic chocolate fudge. Yummy! Love watching their cooks on the open kitchen.

Today I am taking you to Inishmore the largest island of the Aran Islands group near Galway.

    Ferry-Aran-Islands

From Ros a Mhil Quay you can choose from 2 Ferry Companies "Aran Island Ferries" and "Aran Islands Direct". There are also Ferries leaving from Galway. The ride from Ros a Mhil to Inishmore takes an hour and costs 25 Euros per Adult. It’s worth going for just one day but try to catch the earliest Ferry out. But if you can stay over night or even longer – pubs stay open as long as they want since there is no police on the Island to shut down places. And if there is police on one of the ferries the whole Island will know to behave.

To get around on the Island we chose to bike (10 Euro for one day if you are a group of 4 or more you can maybe talk to them to get a rebate – There are couple of rental places where you can ask) but you also can hop on one of those horse carriages or take a Mini Bus Tour.

Most Impressive are the cliffs at Dun Aonghase Fort … more images:

Just in case you were wondering.

We only had a few hours because we missed the early ferry .. Driving on Irish Roads can be a little stretchy ;) But we still deserved a Guinness right before we left.

Moyne Abbey is the must see Abbey in County Mayo.

    Moyne-Abbey-Entrance

This is the only way to get to the Abbey. I just don’t know why they put up those "Beware of the Bull sign". It usually indicates that there is something really cool to see when you find one of those signs on your travels through Ireland. As a reminder… most points of interest in Ireland are on privat land. You need to respect that and if there is a sign to keep out – you better keep out. Try talking to the farmer and he will most likely let you pass his land. You see our friend "S" being very sceptical of our "There is no Bull – no worries" as the answer to the warning sign.

    Moyne-Abbey

    The Moyne Abbey.

Moyne Abbey, built in the late Irish Gothic style, was founded by the Burke family as a Franciscan friary and consecrated in 1462. It was destroyed in the 1590’s by Queen Elizabeth’s governor of Connaught, Sir Richard Bingham. The Abbey’s church has an interesting architectural feature – it is cruciform in shape, and has a bell tower suspended over it’s channel arch.

There is some kind of ship scratched into the wall … right of the inside of the Abbey at the main entrance.

We went to Down Patrick head 2 days ago and as you can see St. Patrick’s right hand is missing. Last time we went was in January so since then someone or something chopped down his hand.

This amulet used to be around his right hand.

    The change is still there.

Music: Brobdingnagian Bards – My Irish Valentine

Welcome to H-Island! This is a secret spot we discovered a while ago. If you are really interested what island it is, feel free to email me. Why am I not publishing the whole name of that place? Well, first of all it is somewhat dangerous (see second last picture – these are actual stairs you have to walk on – one mistake and you are flying) – also it is privat land and you need to ask permission of the farmer to walk over his land. It’s all gated ! And last reason … The seals …. We already feel very bad to scare that seal so badly. In fact it was all fine until I started taking pictures with my medium format camera. Poor seal – it probably thought it was a gun or something.

Back in the days you could make a couple of easy bucks for killing seals and trading in seals heads for 4 pounds each. But still – fishermen are still hating seals. They estimate that every seals eats 1.000 pounds worth of fish. Not sure how they come up with that number … POUNDS! It’s Euros now! …
